Post Chag Blues

After a full month of chagim (holidays) and Shabbat meals I am wiped as I am sure many of you are.  When the holidays start to blur into each other, and you lose track of what day it is you have what I call the Post Chagim Blues.  It doesn’t really help that there are only two days until the next Shabbat either. For many the letdown after a month of celebrating is like having the carpet pulled out from under you.  I love cooking and the thought of preparing another set of heavy meals (actually any – the thought of eating again really) is not giving me the usual joy.

To try and offset the doldrums I am keeping things super, super simple this week. Baked chicken, kugels left from chag and an easy tossed together with okra from my garden crockpot beef gumbo.  I planned ahead and have challah in the freezer, and we have plenty in the way of desserts still, so it isn’t a full on Shabbos cook this week.  Also, to help to lift my spirits I have started planning a series of themed Shabbat meals.

Having a plan in place for the next few weeks is a definite boost and will make the next month and a half until Hanukah seem less drab.  So far on the agenda are the following:

·      A Russian Shabbos

·      Ethiopian Shabati Meal

·      A Vegan Shabbat

·      A Cochin Shabbat Meal

If you have any suggestions for the Shabbat meal world tour, please let me know.
